(Canthidermis sufflamen)

 Distribution & Size

Triggerfish are reef fish.  There name is derived from the fact that they have "triggers" which is the forward dorsal spine.  No amount of pressure will force it back down, but a slight push on the shorter second spine will make the "trigger" fold instantly.  Most times this species are caught when anglers are targeting other species such as snappers and groupers.  On average the Ocean Triggerfish is the largest of the triggers averaging 4 to 6lbs but sometimes as much as 10lbs.
The
World record for the Ocean Triggerfish is 13lbs 8ozs.

The Queen Triggerfish usual average weight is from a 2 to 5lbs and rarely exceeds 10lbs.
The World record is 12lbs.

The Gray Triggerfish also known as the Common Triggerfish is mostly found well offshore.  It averages from 1 to 3lbs and occasionally as much as 10lbs.
World record is 13lbs 9ozs.
